
Hammad Ali, MD
Dr. Hammad Ali is a dual board-certified specialist with advanced training in autoimmune skin diseases and rheumatology-dermatology. Bringing over 15 years of clinical experience and academic training to his practice, Dr. Ali provides management for conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriatic arthritis, dermatomyositis, vasculitis, and other connective tissue diseases. His clinical scope also includes rare disorders like autoimmune blistering diseases.
Dr. Ali completed his internal medicine residency at Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University, where he was twice named resident of the Month and given the professionalism award at his graduation. He went on to complete a rheumatology fellowship at the University of Kentucky, where he served as Chief Rheumatology Fellow. He continued his training through a rheumatology research fellowship before pursuing a fellowship in rheumatology-dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania.
Board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology, Dr. Ali is actively involved in clinical and translational research aimed at better understanding disease pathology, improving outcomes in autoimmune diseases, including pregnancy outcomes in lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.
He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and abstracts and has presented at national and international conferences including the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), Society of Investigative Dermatology (SID), American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), Rheumatologic Dermatology Society (RDS), Medical Dermatology Society (MDS), and the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR). He actively contributes to the academic community as a peer reviewer for numerous journals.
Dr. Ali takes a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to care, working closely with fellow providers and patients alike. He believes in understanding not only the disease but also the individual living with it, integrating each patient’s personal goals, preferences, and quality of life into their care plan.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Ali is an avid outdoorsman. Raised between England and Pakistan, he developed an early love for the mountains through family trips, and he continues to explore high-altitude hiking across the Karakoram, Himalayas, and the Swiss Alps. He also enjoys football (soccer), volleyball, cricket, table tennis and horse riding. He someday hopes to not just ride, but keep horses.
