The Right Care at the Right Time: Raven's Health Journey
I’m the matriarch of a family 27 strong in this town. And every one of them knows Dr. Kiljanek's name.
September 22, 2025 [Gillette, WY] – When Raven Schreck moved to town three years ago, she was searching for a clinic that could meet her wide range of health needs. As a retired nurse of 27 years, she knew what to look for in a provider. What she didn’t expect was how quickly her own health would start to spiral.
In fall 2022, Raven’s health took a drastic turn. What started with gout flare-ups soon escalated into multiple complications: joint inflammation, a torn rotator cuff, fainting spells, high blood pressure, very low potassium, and declining kidney function. On top of that, she was living with a rare blood cancer, polycythemia vera, and had long carried a diagnosis of congestive heart failure.
“I went to sleep one night and woke up, and my whole body was falling apart,” Raven recalls. By the time she sought help, her kidney function had dropped to just 25%. “That's when I started researching,” she says. “For who could take care of everything I’ve got going on.”
Finding the Right Care
Raven's search led her to Hoskinson Health & Wellness Clinic and to nephrologist and hypertension specialist, Dr. Lukasz Kiljanek.
At her first visit, Dr. Kiljanek reviewed all her medications line by line, adjusting dosages, and carefully discontinuing prescriptions that were no longer needed, and then including therapies for gout and blood pressure. He also made sure to involve her in treatment decisions, followed up frequently, sometimes every other day, to check on her progress. “He was on me every step of the way. He’d call to make sure I didn’t need anything.”
A Collaborative Approach
As part of her care, Raven was also referred to Hoskinson Health and Wellness Clinic's cardiologist, Dr. Daniel Davidovich. After thorough testing, he questioned whether Raven truly had congestive heart failure, a label she’d carried since her mid-40s.
Raven recalls Dr. Davidovich's words: “I don’t think you have that. It’s just normal aging.” That new perspective lifted a weight she had been carrying for decades.
It is important to not miss anything, but it is also important to not overtreat and over diagnose. - Dr. Davidovich.
Through this team-based approach, Raven’s health slowly began to stabilize. Her kidney function improved, blood pressure came under control, and her medication list was cut in half.
Restoring Quality of Life
“Before all this, I didn’t even know how sick I really was. Nothing short of a miracle,” she says.
Today, at age 71, Raven describes herself as “seriously amazing.” She’s back to cooking, baking, and caring for her family of 27, whom she proudly calls her community. She’s also become something of an ambassador for the clinic, keeping Hoskinson Health business cards in her purse to share with anyone who might need care.
“I carry cards from Hoskinson’s in my purse,” she says. “When I meet someone who needs help, I give them one. I tell them: "You need to get to Hoskinson’s."
A Trusted Space
For Raven, Hoskinson Health and Wellness Clinic has become a second community. She knows the front desk staff, the lab team, and even the radiology technicians by name, and they know hers.
“I love going there,” she says. “The first time I walked in, I was enamored by the bear, the art, the octopus table, everything. I thought, wow, someone has incredible taste.”
But it's not just the space. It was the warmth.
“Everyone is so helpful and kind. It just feels good to be there.”
Helping Raven has been a great and extremely rewarding experience, and her wellbeing is of special importance to me. My special concern about the well-being of a patient, applies to all patients that come through my office door, and I thank the Lord for the gifts I can use to improve their health. - Dr. Kiljanek.
